Daily in 2009. Screenings at 4:30 p.m., plus additional 7 p.m. shows on Fridays and Saturdays and a 2pm show on Sundays.. The best of world cinema is right here in America's Hometown! May schedule:

Friday, May 1 - Thursday, May 7
Wendy and Lucy

Director Kelly Reichardt delivers a resonant portrait of a dying America. Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain) is Wendy, a down-on-her-luck young woman who has driven across-country with her dog, Lucy, in search of a better life in Alaska. When her car breaks down and she becomes separated from Lucy, her predicament becomes dire. In a world that doesn't seem to know she even exists, Wendy befriends a local security guard (Wally Dalton), who gives her a tiny fraction of hope. Wendy and Lucy is a tribute to marginalized characters, usually ignored in both the cinematic and real worlds. Rated R

Friday, May 8 - Thursday, May 14
Tokyo Sonata

Best known in the United States for bizarre and unsettling horror films like Pulse and Cure, Kiyoshi Kurosawa diverges with Tokyo Sonata. A study in contrasts, this family drama contains an underlying tension that permeates the film even during its most humorous moments. The story concerns a Japanese businessman who unexpectedly loses his job. Unable to break the news to his devoted wife and family, he dresses up every morning and pretends to go to work. Equal parts social commentary and situational comedy, Kurosawa’s film also feels like a thriller, thanks to the exceptionally atmospheric work from cinematographer Akiko Ashizawa and composer Kazumasa Hashimoto. Rated PG-13

Friday, May 15 - Thursday, May 21
Lemon Tree

Salma, a 45 year old Palestinian widow, owns a lemon grove on the border of Palestinian and Israeli territory. Her fight to save her family grove from being cut down for security reasons takes her in its course through new love, unexpected cross-cultural friendships, and eventually the Israeli Supreme Court. Unrated.

Friday, May 12 - Thursday, May 28
Fados

Fados completes the musical trilogy of award-winning Carlos Saura (Flamenco, 1995; Tango, 1998). Ravishing cinemetography and ingenious effects spotlight Portugal's faudistas, both legends and new wave, as they perform this haunting, beautifully melancholy musical genre. Unrated.

Friday, May 29 - Thursday, June 4
Revanche

A thrilling, tragic Oscar-nominated drama set in a Viennese brothel. An ex-con working as an assistant in the brothel falls for a Ukrainian hooker. Their desperate plans for escape interesect with the lives of a rural cop and his seemingly content wife, creating a dark yet beautiful, existential portrait of life. In German with subtitles. Unrated.
