Tel: 508-746-1622

Daily in 2009. Screenings at 4:30 p.m., plus additional 7 p.m. shows on Fridays and Saturdays and a 2pm show on Sundays.. The best of world cinema is right here in America's Hometown! April schedule:

Friday, March 27 - Thursday, April 9
The Class

Well-intentioned François and his fellow teachers prepare for a new year at a high school in a tough neighborhood. Bracing themselves against discouragement, they plan to give their students the best education possible. Cultures and attitudes often clash in the classroom, a microcosm of contemporary France. Amusing, inspiring and full of twists. Rated PG-13

Friday, April 10- Thursday, April 16
The Great Buck Howard

Law-school dropout Troy Gable answers an ad for a "personal assistant to a celebrity performer," hoping it will catapult him to a glamorous career in the entertainment industry. Little does he know that performer is Buck Howard, an infamous "mentalist", now reduced to has-been magician. Writer/director Sean McGinly does the near impossible by successfully encapsulating a whole era of entertainment in one outrageous character. Played to perfection by John Malkovich, Buck is a flamboyant mix of ego, sweetness, and delusion who yet reminds us there is power in remaining true to ourselves.
Rated PG

Friday, April 17- Thursday, April 23
Everlasting Moments

In this breathtaking film from renowned Swedish director Jan Troell, a woman experiences an artistic awakening after being introduced to photography. Based on real-life events, the story opens at the start of the 20th century and centers around Finnish housewife Maria Larrson (Maria Heiskanen). While many of the film’s images are harsh and painful, they are also fascinating and beautiful in their realism. Persbrandt delivers an excellent performance as Maria's alcoholic husband, and Heiskanen is phenomenal as the unstoppable Maria. Despite the bleak world the characters inhabit, the film is ultimately a moving affirmation of life’s beauty and the strength of the human spirit. Unrated.

Friday, April 24 - Thursday, April 30
Shall We Kiss?

Wry, observant and touching, Shall we Kiss? is a very contemporary meditation on the myriad implications of a simple kiss. When Gabriel and Emilie meet by chance, he offers her a ride, and they spend the evening talking, laughing and getting along famously. At the end of the night, Emilie declines Gabriel's offer of "a kiss without consequences." Emilie admonishes him that the kiss could have unexpected consequences, and tells him a story, unfolded in flashbacks, about the impossibility of indulging your desires without affecting someone else's life. French with subtitles.
Unrated.
